The Virginmarys Stream New Album, "Divides" With Apple Music Today

Today, energetic three-piece, The Virginmarys arrive with their sophomore release, Divides debuting worldwide on Apple Music. The album is the highly-anticipated follow up to their 2013 debut LP, King of Conflict, which garnered attention from the likes of Rolling Stone, Guitar World and more.

Never ones to go under the radar, the band arrived with first single from the record, "Into Dust" on Clash Mag - an erratic call to arms about the disillusionment and boredom that creeps into everyday life. With jagged riffs and an erratic bass line, the song bleeds with a sense of urgency that is impossible to ignore and was a fitting first taste to the record. “Motherless Land” followed, premiering with Consequence of Sound, who noted that their sound bleeds of "no-frills, honest-to-god British rock with an undeniable punk edge.” “Motherless Land” is currently heating up at Active Rock and Alternative Radio.
The darker, sombre "Moths to a Flame" was the next installment from the album, a song "written about struggles through mental health and addiction and how we must stick together and be there for each other," says bassist, Matt Rose. And finally, the band dropped "For You My Love", on Guitar World - who, in anticipation of the release, noted that the record is "undoubtedly one of the most impressive, adventurous and outspoken rock records of the year, tackling themes from the deeply personal to the vehemently political with punk force and melodic panache.... it’s a record that isn't afraid to scale the barricades and bare its bruises."
Band frontman, Ally Dickaty sums up Divides with typical passion. “The overall theme of the album is the divides among people, freedom and power, injustice, inequality and corruption. Anger, disillusionment, injustice, frustration about where I feel we are in today's society. History repeating. Restraint by systems that benefit the few and the choices left to take part or be cast aside and face persecution. The rise of depression and anxiety and use of anti-depressants and drugs across the globe. Disillusion in politicians and democracy. There's a lot of divides with us in Britain, many created by the government and media turning people against one another. We are brainwashed with who to love, who to fear, who is good and who is evil.”
