Teen Suicide Share "The Stomach of the Earth"

Baltimore's Teen Suicide have resurrected themselves with the announcement of a new double LP, It's the Big Joyous Celebration, Let's Stir the Honeypot, out April 1, 2016 on Run For Cover Records. The first for the group since 2012, Teen Suicide began as the solo project of Sam Ray (Ricky Eat Acid, Julia Brown) with a rotating cast of musicians but has since morphed into a full band.

THUMP is sharing one of the most interesting tracks on the record today, the EDM-leaning "The Stomach of the Earth". Pre-order for Big Joyous Celebration is now available via the Run For Cover webstore.

Teen Suicide will appear at this year's SXSW and embark on a full US tour on 4/20, all tour dates are below.

Songwriter Sam Ray said of "The Stomach of the Earth", "This song is about purgatory. There's a kind of purgatory that comes with being a drug addict, when you do the same things constantly every day and have only one goal and one desire at all times, and there's a kind of purgatory that comes with getting sober and being a normal person, when life consists of nothing but small, forgettable moments and places. Sitting by a lake, getting your hair cut, going to the bank, even just deciding whether or not to shower on any given day, it all becomes the same boring, eternal thing. This song is mostly about that latter kind of purgatory, but also about purgatory in a more literal sense. So much of our record comes back to the idea of heaven (or any afterlife) being this really boring, mundane place. Sort of like Kurt Vonnegut's description of the afterlife in "Slapstick", where heaven is so dull it's referred to as 'The Turkey Farm'. rather than 'Paradise'. Life might be this boring, mundane place, but it has a definite ending and there's a great exhilaration that comes with facing the unknown. Imagine everything dull and routine about life, now stripped of all possibility of change. I don't know why but I find that terrifying sometimes."

Teen Suicide’s new album, It’s the Big Joyous Celebration, Let’s Stir the Honeypot is also, according to the band, their final record. Recorded over fourteen months with a Robert Altman-sized group of collaborators and performers, it’s both a skeleton key for the band’s earlier work & a great corrective addition to it. Updating rather than refuting all of the past themes and styles of their revered first LP “i will be my own hell because there is a devil inside my body” and numerous EPs, Big Joyous Celebration shifts between punk, noise, country, house & a myriad of other electric dance genres to create something as messy, sprawling, and captivating as its mouthful of a title. Spread over twenty six tracks, there is plenty that Teen Suicide’s swansong has to say for itself in the band’s distinct, captivating, and refreshingly enjoyable voice.
