Corey Prokowiew, vocalist for Wind Walkers, had this to say about the track.
“I wrote this song during a time of grief when I had to say farewell to somebody close to my heart. The concept behind “Dead Tom’s Dead” involves how unexpected loss in a family, or in any relatable situation, can lead to a lot of self-blame, self-realization, and sometimes even self-harm. Although I find these consequences rehabilitative in the grieving process, they aren’t always the easiest to handle. Traumatic experiences stick with you and mentally break you down making it difficult to think on the positive side of things and this song is a direct result of the negative side taking priority. As far as details regarding the incident itself, I’ll let the lyrics speak for themselves.”
