Psych-rock quintet Xu Xu Fang had a tremendously successful South by Southwest 2015! Made up of Bobby Tamkin (songwriter, producer, drums), Devin Johnson (guitar), Marissa Micik (vocals), Lisa Fendelander (keyboards), and Kyle Hines (bass), Xu Xu Fang has accomplished quite a bit over the past year. The band premiered their new single “Noir State Beach” from their upcoming full-length albumon Consequence of Sound, which features guest duet vocals and bass guitar by Michael Shuman of Queens of the Stone Age. The “Noir State Beach” video premiered on Rolling Stone, showing off the directorial efforts of Casey Storm (longtime Spike Jonze collaborator) and acting chops of Luke Grimes (American Sniper/50 Shades of Grey).
Now in rotation on Los Angeles’ tastemaker radio station KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic, “Noir State Beach” was featured in the Season 2 Premiere of The CW’s The Originals, and included in Entertainment Weekly‘s TV Jukebox: The Week’s Best Music-On-TV Moments. Xu Xu Fang has placed multiple songs on Gossip Girl, and their song, “Your Way,” will be featured in the Season 3 Premiere of TV show Bates Motel. At the end of 2014, the band collaborated with German electronic label Kompakt Records to release the 12″ vinyl single, Noir State Beach The Remixes.
