The four piece Austin, TX based indie-pop upstarts SPEAK will cross the US for a second time this year with Interscope/Cherrytree recording artist RAC for a month-long trek that kicks off October 22, 2014 in Boston. The full list of dates can be found below.
As a testament to their chemistry, the track “I Should’ve Guessed” (which featured vocals by SPEAK) from RAC’s album Strangers Pt. II reached the #1 position on Hype Machine. After SPEAK’s opening set on the upcoming tour, SPEAK frontman Troupe Gammage will sit in with RAC as guest vocalist. “The fact that I get to go onstage singing songs that Peter Moren [Peter Bjorn and John] and Kele [Bloc Party] on the record… and then sing SPEAK songs right alongside them is not lost on me,” Troupe beams of the tour. “André [Allen Anjos, RAC frontman] is basically saying, ‘You deserve to stand up here next to these guys’.”
SPEAK will be highlighting songs off their most recent release PEDALS which is out now on Playing In Traffic Records. Pedals’stellar first single “Gates” also quickly made its way to #1 at Hype Machine, as well as garnering industry praise from the likes of Ellie Goulding and Ra Ra Riot. The band also created and released a video game to accompany the single “Be Reasonable, Diane.”
Formed in 2008, SPEAK dominated the local scene, winning them Best New Band in 2010 and then Best Indie Group in 2011 at Austin Music Awards. The band continued their budding musical takeover with stints at Austin City Limits Music Festival, Firefly Music Festival and tours with Ra Ra Riot, Tegan & Sara, The Griswolds and Miniature Tigers.
SPEAK is Troupe Gammage (keyboard, lead vocals), Nick Hurt (guitar, vocals), Joey Delahoussaye (bass, vocals), and Jake Stewart (drums). Pedals was self-produced and released on June 24, 2014 via Playing in Traffic Records.
