“I re-wrote the lyrics for this song at the very last minute,” Weiss tells EW.com. “I had a whole other chorus worked out but it just didn’t feel right, so I went upstairs (we made the record in my house) and I locked myself in my room until I figured it out. I wanted to write about coming to terms with reality. It’s such a weird emotion to experience when you first find out that something great can end. My mom calls this my ‘Taylor Swift Song’ which I guess makes sense if you consider it’s from the perspective of someone who’s growing up and realizing that love isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Though I’m pretty sure she just means the lyric about the back porch.”
It’s been a busy year for Weiss! Her meteoric rise to pop-rock stardom began in early 2013 with the release of her critically heralded album Say What You Mean. Since then she’s been touring relentlessly, including two European runs and multiple U.S. tours, and amassing a legion of fans along the way. Now, a little more than a year later she’s returned with what many are saying is her best release yet, Remember When.
The dynamic new EP finds Weiss at the top of her songwriting game as she weaves pop-infused hooks with indie rock riffs on five uniquely memorable tracks, including “Remember When,” “Giving Up,” “The Fall,” “Call Your Girlfriend” (originally by Robyn) and “Take You Back.”
Weiss will be performing an album release show at El Cid in Los Angeles on July 18th before joining the Vans Warped Tour onJuly 20th in Shakopee, MN.
