Have Mercy is hooking up with Boston rock band Somos to release a split 7” record on February 24th via No Sleep Records. In anticipation, the bands have partnered with AltPress.com today to reveal Have Mercy’s unique cover of the iconic singer-songwriter Jackson Browne’s classic song “Somebody’s Baby.” Pre-orders for the split are available now at https://nosleeprecords.com/product/7496.

“When we were approached about doing the split with Somos we were immediately down,” says Have Mercy vocalist/guitarist Brian Swindle. “We were just about to release our 2nd LP, A Place Of Our Own, so we knew we didn’t want to put out anymore newer songs that soon after. We decided to record a cover of “Somebody’s Baby” by Jackson Browne because it was the only one we could agree on and we all love that song.”
In addition to “Somebody’s Baby,” the split will also feature an acoustic version of Have Mercy’s track “Two Years” which the band recently recorded in Mesa, AZ.
“When I was in Arizona on our tour with Real Friends we tracked a cover of “Two Years” above the venue with some people we met that night,” Swindle adds. “I wanted to do a very raw version of the song. It was tracked live so there was no tuning done to the vocals or retracking of guitars. There are flaws but it’s natural.”
Have Mercy formed in 2011 and self-released their debut EP, My Oldest Friend, in 2012 followed by their debut full length, The Earth Pushed Back, in May 2013 via Topshelf Records. The band inked a deal with Hopeless Records earlier this year and released their sophomore record, A Place Of Our Own, in October. The record is currently available for purchase at http://havemercy.merchnow.com/.
On the flipside, the upcoming split will also feature two newly recorded tracks from rising New England rock band Somos, including an unreleased song “Streets Upon Streets” and an acoustic version of “Domestic.”
