Interview by Dom Vigil
Can you tell us a little bit about yourselves for anyone who may not be familiar with RKDN?
We’re an alt pop band from Utah Valley, we’re big soccer fans and we love Mexican food
Having only been a band for about a year now, how has that journey been so far? What have you learned about yourselves?
We’ve been really lucky in having 4 guys that really click. We’ve avoided a lot of the pitfalls of a growing unit just because we’re such good friends. We’re all brothers here.
You guys just released your new single, “Silver” – can you tell us a little bit about the story behind the track?
Well its a love song, no surprise there. This was a really fun track to produce as a band, its a very simple pop song so we were able to take some creative liberties with the production side of things and it still stood as a catchy song. We consider this track the 5th member of the band after all we’ve put into it. Its been about a year in the making.
I understand you guys are also working on an album. How is that coming along so far?
Great! We love the studio. Our home town has this killer studio called June Audio, we really click with Scott, the owner. Working there is so fluid and just straight up fun.
Is there anything you want to be able to accomplish with any new music that you’ve been working on?
We just want to get Matt on Celebrity Chopped. Thats what we’re really after.
When can listeners expect to hear some more new music from the album?
Spring of 2016.
What would you like listeners to take away from your music or live shows?
We want listeners to leave a show or take their headphones off feeling happy. We write songs about love and good feelings, we want our music to inspire that in everyone from the casual listener to the superfan.
What inspires you guys, musically or otherwise?
Just life in general really – relationships, good and bad, things that make us happy; Matt has a lyric about his favorite restaurant in town on a track called Dancer that’ll be on the LP. Bet you can’t figure out which one.
Do you guys have any big plans coming up for the end of 2015?
We’ve got a home town date with Bastille, that should be a lot of fun, we’re wrapping up the LP too but ultimately we’re just gonna do a lot of skiing.
