Review by Shannon Shumaker
Buckcherry’s newest EP, aptly titled Fuck, is definitely a statement. Right off the bat, they’re in your face, loud, proud and rebellious. If Buckcherry wanted to get my attention with this release, they’ve definitely got it, as it’s hard not to listen to this album all the way through, wondering just what exactly they’re going to do or say next.
The first track on the EP, “Somebody Fucked With Me” is definitely the perfect opening song. It’s angry, punk rock and gritty, and basically serves as a big middle finger in the air to everyone - and I mean everyone. They definitely don’t hold back on “Somebody Fucked With Me,” making it a very promising opening to the album. Following the first track comes the band’s cover of the Icona Pop hit, “I Love It,” rewritten as “Say Fuck It.” While the guitar parts on this cover are pretty awesome and catchy (and very 80s metal) I’m honestly not the biggest fan of this track. I almost just wish that it had been another original track, especially considering that the rest of the songs on the album are amazing compared to it, especially the fourth track, “I Don’t Give A Fuck,” which is easy to bob your head along to.
Obviously, Buckcherry’s Fuck isn’t an album that should be taken seriously. If you find yourself listening to this EP and feeling offended, you’re not listening to Buckcherry for the right reasons. Fuck wasn’t written to provide thoughtful, meaningful or insightful lyrics about life, it’s meant to be loud, rebellious and fun, and in that aspect, Buckcherry have hit the nail on the head.
